The Operation New Life, MDM Honduras and LTCare partnership has had a tremendous impact on the lives of Honduran families over the last 20 years. With ONL now into its second decade, the legacy of founders Dr. Kris Shewmake, Dr. Bill Alfonso and Dr. Barry Sorrells, continues through the partnership with GHO / Christian Medical and Dental Association and with other surgeons who have joined our team over the years. Teams specializing in maxillofacial, plastics, orthopedics, ENT and others continue to provide life-changing surgeries, help establish residency programs and train the next generation of Honduran surgeons.
In the early years, ONL relied on this partnership to provide the in-country coordination and medical relationships needed get the surgical ministry off the ground. MDM was already at work in Honduras, establishing a Rural Community Development ministry supporting 18 villages on the mountain surrounding the communities of San Matias. The partnership with ONL made perfect sense and helped MDM establish local healthcare services for the people of San Matias.
MDM originally launched its San Matias work with an Academy for supplementing public education and equipping families to be responsible for their children’s education. MDM’s Mountain of Blessing Academy is responsible for helping educate hundreds of San Matias children and has sent (and sponsored) more than 300 students on to higher education in Tegucigalpa. MDM’s Community Development ministry has now grown to include Education, Healthcare and Economic Development, creating more opportunities to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ.
MDM’s work has been greatly supported by ONL’s surgical teams who graciously visited the mountain, sponsored children and invested in community projects. We are all grateful for the partnership as we’ve worked together for change. We hope you are encouraged about the expanding work of ONL and MDM in Honduras and hope you will learn more about us. Thank you for YOUR dedication to the Honduran people through this great event!
